Yutree are proud to continue to support the Cambridge Sports Development Foundation

Yutree are proud to continue to support the Cambridge Sports Development Foundation (CSDF) and their association with Cambridge RUFC.

The Cambridge Sports Development Foundation are now working with 20 schools in the local area where they deliver touch rugby as well as Alternative Education Provision. They help run the weekly touch mixed ability sessions at the club on Monday’s with over 30 people joining in along with a small number of walking rugby mid-week.

They also have two coaches at Long Road running their rugby programme and hope to do well enough this year that hopefully it becomes part of the club next year.

Cambridge Sports Development Foundation said, “It has been a busy year for Cambridge Sports Development Foundation and this could not have been achieved without the support of Yutree Insurance. We are thankful for the support and hope to continue to grow within the Cambridge Community.”

It’s an exciting time for CSDF as they take on more projects, and oversee the Community Arm of Cambridge Rugby Club, who achieved promotion in 2022/23 season and are now playing in the 2nd tier of English Rugby – The Championship.

Below is a synopsis of projects that have been actioned by the Cambridge Sports Development Foundation:

ALTERNATE PROVISION

CSDF now oversee approximately 15 to 20 students a week with our Alternate Provision. For the 2022/23 Academic Year we have averaged 70 hours a month of Provision, which helps young disadvantaged/vulnerable students, aged 13 to 16 year olds, develop and cope with all challenges. Examples include:

  • Students in knife crime and gangs (County Lines)
  • Introverts
  • Bullies
  • Students who do not attend school
  • Students who are disruptive in class

They  have worked with 9 different schools in the region assisting their students with the provision. Additionally, we have moved from Stage 3 to Stage 4 – meeting the Local Authority’s Quality Assurance Standards.

This means they are at the top level of Quality Assurance in regards to Compliance.

SPECIAL NEEDS COACHING

On a weekly basis throughout the year, CSDF coach Rugby at a Special Needs School – for teens

who have physically and learning difficulties.

MAINSTREAM SCHOOLS -Rugby in Schools

CSDF supported Rugby Coaching in a number of city centre schools, supplying Coaches to help with Rugby provision.

  • Coleridge Community College
  • Parkside Community College
  • Trumpington Community College
  • The Grove Primary School
  • University of Cambridge Primary School
  • Chesterton Community College

WALKING RUGBY

In March 2022 the CSDF set up Walking Rugby at Cambridge Rugby Club. This was targeted to 55+, although all ages are welcome. The Foundation support this by supplying Coaches, Equipment, Marketing collateral and more. Numbers started at 4 but are up to 15 regulars!

TOUCH RUGBY

Alongside Walking Rugby, the Foundation has also started and supported Mixed Ability Touch Rugby at CRUFC. This has been very popular and has seen numbers of up to 60+. Ages are from 12+ up to 60. The Foundation has supplied Management, Coaches, Equipment and Marketing. This will continue until October (or until it’s too cold).

PRIMARY SCHOOL FAIRS

The Foundation has been attending Primary School Fairs in the region over the past few weeks, showcasing rugby to pupils who may have not tried out the game before. Additionally they have hosted Basic Introduction to Rugby sessions, to Years 5 & 6 at schools.

Through this activity they have had a lot of traction to start up ‘After School Clubs’ at a number of Primary Schools.

FOREIGN STUDENTS – BASIC INTRODUCTION TO RUGBY SESSIONS

The Foundation in partnership with LSI offer basic rugby sessions to Foreign students (aged 13 to 16) visiting Cambridge over the Summer. They supply a number of Coaches and coach the sport to all nationalities (Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Korean, Taiwanese, Colombian etc.)

So far in 2023 the CSDF has worked with 300+ students!

SPORTS HOLIDAY CAMPS

The CSDF supported the Holiday Camps held at Cambridge Rugby Club in all school holidays throughout the year. They supplied Coaches ensuring that they were all suitable and DBS checked.

SPONSORSHIP FOR SCHOOLS

The Foundation managed to secure some Sponsorship for City Schools towards Health and Fitness equipment, and a number of Schools have taken this up, and in turn are keen to continue work with the Foundation.

MATCH DAY EXPERIENCE – AGE GROUPS AND SCHOOLS

The Foundation oversaw all Match Day Experiences at Cambridge RUFC – meaning children get to experience 1st XV matches, meet the players, and have some fun rugby sessions.

Set to expand in 2023/24.

FACILITIES/PURCHASES

The CSDF continues to support Cambridge RUFC with purchases of sports equipment such as table tennis table and equipment, table football, dart board, spike ball set and more.
